This week you will be learning about the Civil Rights Movement. Each day you will complete an assignment to help you learn more about it. All individual assignments are due the morning after they are assigned. All group projects are due by Monday February 21st.

What lead to the civil right movement? What is discrimination? Watch this video to show you what was going on in Florida during the Civil Rights Movement.

After watching the video think about how you would feel as an African American during this time.

Assignment:Use the websites below and your textbook to research in what ways blacks were being discriminated against in Florida. Why do you think these events lead to civil rights? Use the websites below to help write your reflection in 1-2 paragraphs. Then create an ad that promotes banning discrimination. Be as creative as you want as long as you get the point across that discrimination is bad. This should be done by using Microsoft word.

Assignment: Pretend that you are writing a newsletter during the civil rights movement. Make an attractive cover page with a title and your name. Inside the newsletter should contain an issue that affected blacks during the civil rights movement. Explain why it is bad and what you believe should be done about it. Make sure that it is creative. Use your computer to arrange graphics and text and print it when you are done.

Assignment: In a group previously assigned create a timeline of the process that was taken for places to become desegregated. Then discuss the following questions: Where they desegregated right away? How do you think blacks and whites reacted? Write your reflections at the bottom of the timeline. Use graphics from the computer to make the timeline creative.

Assignment: Now that you know more about the Civil Rights Movement you are going to prepare a newscast about the Civil Rights Movement. I have already given you cards that say what group you are in. First, decide who will be the researcher, writer, reporters,director, people being interviewed etc. You are aloud to be more than one character but make sure we know who you are portraying by the questions being asked.
Next, prepare what you will be doing and write out a script for what will be said.
Once you have practiced the director is going to video tape it and it will be showed to the class.
Make sure that the broadcast is creative and that it includes information on changes that the civil rights movement brought to Florida.
